SNIFF ALBERTA FUN MATCH SUN. AUG. 13, 2017
Sniff Alberta’s fun Sniffing Dog Sports match is this Sunday, Aug 13. We’re offering all levels of SDS, plus fun team relays. Don’t worry: only one dog searches at a time. There is never any dog-dog interaction, so that everyone can play safe and have fun. Come on out to help us raise money so we can offer SDS and UKC nosework competitions. We need volunteers, and spectators are always welcome (please don’t bring your dog).

SNIFFING DOG SPORTS NOSEWORK COMPETITION OCT. 7-8
Sniff Alberta is preparing for Canada’s first SDS trial Oct. 7-8 (at Kayenna Kennels Calgary), where I’ll be judging with Laurie Leach. We’re delighted to invite Karyn Eby back to Calgary as our trial supervisor. We’re offering Novice, Advanced & Excellent level nosework competition. If you pass the searches in all 3 events (area, container & distance game version #1), you can complete your title in one day!
Entries open Aug. 14 on the Sniffing Dog Sports website: http://sniffingdogsports.com/events/.
ABOUT SNIFFING DOG SPORTS (SDS)
Not sure what to expect? Watch our students playing the SDS Distance games: https://nosework.huntersheart.com/2017/07/29/sds-distance-game-v1-nosework-search-demonstration-hunters-heart-scent-dog-training/. So far, most handlers are intimidated by independent off leash searches, but most have been pleasantly surprised to find their dogs know exactly what to do.
Check out our handy summary of SDS search requirements for each level: https://nosework.huntersheart.com/2017/08/02/sds-summary-by-level-sniffing-dog-sports-nosework-competition/. You can choose any level you’re comfortable with to start, and there’s no pre-trial, ORT or DOT required to play. Register your dog now at http://sniffingdogsports.com/new-members/
Not sure if it’s for you? Sniffing Dog Sports offers a Try Before You Buy option where you can compete and see how fun it is.

“SHOW ME A ROCK SOLID INDICATION” ONLINE NOSEWORK COURSE
If none of the above dates work for your schedule, you can learn nosework online, at your convenience. http://store.huntersheart.com/Scent_Dog_Train_a_solid_indication_p/smo.htm. We’ll help you to choose a reliable indication that shows you the precise location of source. Whether you want your dog to freeze like a statue, or offer a sit or down, our scientifically validated methods have helped dogs of all ages and sizes to love scent work and title successfully at the highest level of nosework competition. You’ll get answers to your nosework questions, and with 6 months custom coaching, we’ll show you exactly how to train your scent dog, and overcome any challenges you might encounter.
INTERNATIONAL ROAD TRIP
What do we do when we’re not teaching? Nosework of course! I’m excited to travel to Napa, California to compete in the first IronDog SDS competition with Boo next weekend. On the way home, Black Betty (the Brittany BB) is entered in her first nosework trial in Gig Harbour, Washington. Looking forward to some fun times, with old friends, and new. I’ll bring home lots of fun ideas to try at classes and events.
BB X BOO PUPPIES
Did you know that odor imprinting begins in the womb? We’re putting the idea into practice, since pregnant BB continues to enjoy scent work this summer. We’re expecting puppies Sept. 22, and for the first time in several years, I’m keeping one! (All puppies are spoken for.) Subscribe to our blog to follow the litter learning nosework from their very first training session.
Sorry we’re travelling so much to make weekly classes practical over the summer. In the meantime, I hope you can join us for Kayenna nosework drop-ins and Sniff Alberta events. Safe travels everyone. Questions and comments are always welcome.
